For Firstyears & Prospectives
For some of you, neuroscience represents a topic you are curious to explore. Others, more passionate about it, are eager to dig into neuroscience right away. Whatever your motivation for being interested in neuroscience, the course Introduction to Neuroscience is the one we recommend you take. It provides foundational knowledge on the core aspects of the discipline and is a prerequisite for our more advanced courses. It will be offered in spring 2021.
Neuroscience is a quintessential interdisciplinary field, and our curriculum was specifically designed with this in mind. Our major requires Introductory courses in 'cognate disciplines' -- Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science. You may consider these introductory courses if a major in neuroscience is a possible option of yours. We suggest you view our curriculum, which is available here.
Barnard students are offered a variety of research opportunities. Although the busy schedule of your first year may not allow time for a research experience, we recommend you start exploring the opportunities available in our department. You may also want to discuss these opportunities with your advisor or with one of the faculty in Neuroscience and Behavior Department.
